About Evolve Housing for Youth

Evolve Housing for Youth (EHY) began as Western After Care Flats in 1979, but changed its name to Western Housing for Youth (WHY) in 1981 housing homeless young women. Soon after a pilot program was developed to house both young women and men at risk of homelessness.

On 28 January 2015, the amalgamation of WHY with Evolve Housing was announced, resulting in the establishment of a new division of Evolve Housing to be named 'Evolve Housing for Youth' which began operation on 1 March 2015.

EHY combines WHY’s expertise in providing youth support services and Evolve Housing’s experience as a Global Mark accredited Tier-1 registered Community Housing Provider (CHP), to deliver the complete suite of person centered quality services to the maximum number of identified at-risk youth.

As a division of Evolve Housing, EHY will have greater access to support systems and resources to meet the growing needs of at risk young people in Western Sydney.

EHY currently manages a minimum of 75 Clients at any given time in transition housing in the Parramatta, Holroyd and Auburn LGAs for young men, women, couples, siblings, pregnant young women and families aged 16-25 and their accompanying children, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, in partnership with a range of Community Housing providers.  EHY is now funded under partnership with Parramatta Mission and through this partnership also has access to Crisis and Medium Term Accommodation, Early Intervention and Prevention, Outreach, and Brokerage Services, which enables us to provide a continuum of services to clients at any stage of risk.

EHY specialises in ascertaining the needs of at risk young people and providing expert Case Management and Coordination, Advocacy and referral services, brokerage, exit housing support, and Living Skills development through a holistic client focused model and well developed network of wrap around partners to access support for a wide range of services to meet the individual needs of each client.

EHY staff include one full-time Manager, two Full-time Youth Case Workers, one Full-time Family Case Worker, one Part-time Living Skills Worker and one Part-time Administration/Client Support Worker, who all operate from an office located in Merrylands. Our EHY office is provided by Holroyd City Council and the Evolve Housing head office is located at Parramatta.

EHY housing is provided through a range of Community Housing providers and also has six bedsits through Housing NSW. EHY provides client and tenancy support to help young people develop their independent living skills that will enable them to move on with their lives. The programs help young people build confidence and life skills to enable them to move into the private rental market and stay out of further homelessness.

As a division of Evolve Housing our tenants have access to Resident Engagement programs which aid in the development of their living skills, personal and professional growth. Clients are able to follow a Residential Tenancy Agreement and have the opportunity to live more independently while maintaining a lower level of support from EHY on their transition to fully independent living - we call this their ‘Journey Home’.

EHY is a division of Evolve Housing, a leading community housing provider and registered charity with funding provided by the Parramatta Mission as the lead funding agency .
